I just got tagged by sengmo http://sengmo.zaadz.com/blog
These are the rules of the game of tag:
1. Link to the person's blog who tagged you.
2. Post these rules on your blog.
3. List seven random and/or weird facts about yourself.
4. Tag seven random [?] people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs.
5. Let each person know that they have been tagged by posting a comment on their blog.
7 Random Things About Myself:
1. i wish i had wings, flying to me is the ultimate freedom.
2. i'm quite affectionate, i spank all my family and friends bottoms (regardless of sex or age) with reckless abandon. they obviously disagree but i always explain its love ;)
3. ive been known to cry over anime films...
4. when i visited taipei, i met a nun who did not speak a word of english. she found my hair interesting. though i could not explain my locks to her, she ended up sitting with me in the midst of devotion, holding my hand. it was quite calming, a few moments we spent without words.
5. i was head cheerleader and home coming queen of my school, which is a shocker, considering i was an outcast to some degree and not your typical ideal of what these roles should be.
6. i have a stray cat who lives in my apartment complex. we feed her and make sure she has fresh water to drink. she lives in a tree.
7. i recently moved away from christmas. i don't buy gifts or hang up decorations. i refuse to be a part of the commercialized event that christmas has become. my family and daughter are very unhappy with me because of it. i care about their feelings but i know that i affect those who surround me so i offer my skills and talents to them instead of store bought products.

Help

umm, my computer skills are limited and I'm shy about what to do. ya, actually shy. Strange.
Thanks for playing the game!
The Christmas issue in interesting. I squat between loving the celebration and avoiding shopping and commerce in that season. I definitely do Christmas with the children.
We exchange personal gifts on the Solstice–encouraged to be hand made by us. We do the tree and the candles. There is a real reverence for having all of our decorations made from natural materials, and bringing in the bows of the evergreen to celebrate life in the darkest days. We go to a few seasonal festivals which lean towards pagan roots. And Santa does come on Christmas Eve, but in a much more limited way than most families.
As a Buddhist, it is a trip to honor a Christian holy-day. But my famiy roots are in Christianity and the celebration of the holiday. I have so many magical memories of Christmas as a child.
Now I do it in a real elemental way–that is semi-pagan. Not much commercialism, not much Baby Jesus. But much family and warmth and light. It works for me now, but it was a real struggle for a few years.
What's your cat friend called? We started with Whiskers, and now we have Kitten [aren't we original!]—it's fascinating watching the various steps in their relating to each other!
hello ladies…
let's see: steel… don't be show just be you and that is good enough. if there is nothing that comes to mind, ask the questions you've always wanted to ask the world if the world paid attention and could offer an answer. maybe others may want to know or have thought about those things as well. spread the light.
sengmo: xmas is one of those things i am truly growing to despise. its meaning will always have a place in my heart; generosity, giving, and love… but its consumer oriented expression leaves alot to be desired. if i could find a way to celebrate xmas without dealing with xmas i would. my daughter has since put her foot down and demanded i participate so i will decorate but i am not buying a tree or presents. my neighbor made a pledge with her family to make all the gifts given and a wise woman offered tips on various ways of going green with giving. i like these ideas and want to spread the wisdom to others. after all… in Christs' time, there weren't any malls or online shopping, and the three wisemen did alright.
meenakshi: there were actually three; tigerlily, lbk, and kiki. lbk died this past august at 15 years old. tigerlily was abandoned and then adopted. kiki (the one who lives in the trees) is still around and estimated to be about 9 years. i will post a photo of lbk and tigerlily shortly in my photos. though left to fend for themselves they ended becoming a family and loved one another until they parted. lily was closest to us, coming into the house and running about. she and my daughter had a wonderful bond and she will be missed.
ok, so what does it mean to 'link to' someone else's blog? How do I do this?
Hi,
This 'Tag You're It' looks like a fun game!
Baby Jesus was not born around 'christmas' time at all. He was a Summer baby. When my 6 year old started asking confused questions about Jesus and Christmas I simply told him that some people celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas time. Period, end of story. If he ever wants to know more about Christ consciousness, I may tell him how he can learn more and find out for himself. Allthough I feel he already has it, as well as my Jewish husband. I support that my children choose their own path, and their own mentor(s).
So my Jewish husband buys a tree every year! Our first Christmas he went to town and bought decorations from all over the world. Every year he finds more ethnic treasures. Between cats and kids some disappear or break, so we keep a good balance. All continents are represented in our tree. We celebrate the Solstice, and create our own magic.
For gifts we buy only what is needed and something fun we can all play with. Winter time is also great to enjoy board or (oracle) card games or connecting through play in other ways. I like the handmade gifts idea. In my family we used to celebrate Sinterklaas (St. Nicholas's birthday on December 6). We used to put our names in a hat, pick a name and make something for this person. It also included a poem. We were relentless. These are sweet memories.
Even though I was 'raised' Catholic once upon a time, I was the one who bought a beautiful menora (in the form of children holding hands up high) for our first Hannukah. Eventually I learned how to sing the song (in Hebrew) to light the candles to celebrate the miracle of Light.
As free spirits we get to visit different religions without attachments or hangups, and celebrate what unites us.
Tag me!
thanks for visiting me, amazume. and you are correct. i was merely using the example but it is important to keep things straight. i like your attitude towards self realization. it is going to be my next attempt at writing. its funny you mention sinterklass.. my birthday is also the 6th of december. i do hope that as my family becomes more ethnically diverse we can include some of the more unifying rituals that most religions participate in. i often wonder if people understand the freedom we have in participating without attachment or duty towards any given religion… i was quite unnerved when i realized i owed no one but myself the knowledge and wisdom that is available from all forms. this is a good lesson to learn at any age. realizing the good and bad in all things keeps perspective balanced and awareness strong. good point and thank you for making it!!
steel… there is a button at the top of the email page which looks like a chain. that is the link command. i suppose you click it and it will invite you to add addresses so that you are linked to their page. i of course didn't do this part because it felt a bit intrusive. some may not be interested in participating so i kept it as informal as possible. if that doesn't work, let me know.
ooohhhhhhhhh, you already have wings-the wings of love, and you are flying! I'll send you lyrics to one of my songs,it's called flying! And yes ,the best mom, ents with people are those without words……….thanks for being nice to that cat ; like I say, everything that is,has a purpose…including that cat!
Keep smiling!
please send me the lyrics and i will send you the lyrics to my favorite as well… this might be the start of something beautiful, medi!!! thank you
